On-Line Project Management Training

On-Line Training That Really Teaches

  • “Alex challenged me to be a better project manager.”

–Benny Recine, worked with Alex at ADP and Merrill Lynch

Real-Life Projects offers a breakthrough in project management on-line training. You make the course material your own by creatively relating the material to your own real-life experiences. Instead of answering dry multiple-choice tests, you will prepare a short paper describing how you could use and apply the material on the job. You will get direct feedback from me, and we will review your thoughts, questions, and ideas via e-mail, to ensure that you get the maximum value from the learning material.

These courses are like a short graduate-level course in project management. You get the chance to have a dialog about the material, and to apply the material to your own workplace.

These courses are available for $100 USD each. Upon completion, you will get a certificate for four (4) contact hours of training. Students have used these courses to satisfy professional continuing education requirements, including Professional Development Units (PDUs) for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Many students will be able to publish the completed papers from the course in professional newsletters and magazines. All the courses include personalized advice on how and where your paper could be published. For the PMP certification, it is possible to earn 14 PDUs (continuing education credits) through the course, including the credit earned for publishing an article. Publishing articles also helps your career tremendously and increases your professional network.

How the Courses Work

For each course, you will be asked to read some material and listen to an on-line recorded lecture about a specific topic. You will be given a writing assignment to complete. You will return it to me, and I will give you constructive feedback and ideas. You will have the chance to revise the paper and get additional feedback from me, if you choose to. Once we both agree that you have understood the material, the course is complete. You will receive a certificate of completion, and advice about where to publish your paper if you wish.

The course material should work on any sound-capable computer with a connection to the Internet and a web browser that allows JavaScript and sound. If you have any doubt about whether you can access the material, try to view the material before registering.

Most students require an hour to an hour and a half to review the material, and another three hours to prepare the paper. Students of any writing ability are welcome. The point of the written assignment is to show that you understand and can apply the information. You will not be graded on your written English, although I will give you suggestions to improve wording and clarity in your paper. Students with English as a second language are welcome.

If you want to publish your article, I will also suggest project management newsletters that might be interested in the material. You will get personal advice about how to approach the editor and how to offer a piece for publication. I will also provide additional editing, if needed, to help polish the piece.
