Biography of Alex S. Brown, PMP
Alex S. Brown, PMP is an experienced project manager and award-winning leader and speaker. He has spoken at many PMI Congresses in North America and Asia, and has been featured at over a dozen other project management events. His articles have appeared in newsletters around the world, and he provides advice to peers internationally through his web site, http://www.alexsbrown.com. He has been a project manager for software development and financial services projects since 1993.
Alex owns Real-Life Projects, Inc., and does speaking, training, and consulting for his clients, to help them improve and transform their businesses. He says he is the person to call “when you don’t have time to waste” and you need an experienced adviser.
Alex graduated from Princeton University and started managing projects with his very first professional job in 1993, although he did not realize he was a “project manager” until many years later. Alex has worked at Automatic Data Processing, Merrill Lynch, Chubb & Son, and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. In 2000 he realized his professional calling as a project manager. He joined the Project Management Institute, as well as the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). Alex is also a member of the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (asapm).
Alex passed the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam in 2001 and immediately began writing papers and speaking on project management. He started alexsbrown.com that same year, to share his message with project managers all over the world. His professional assignments have included large-scale software development projects, internal control procedures, marketing & sales initiatives, regulatory mandates, and business improvement efforts. Those experiences form the foundation for all Alex’s articles, speeches, and advice.
Alex founded Real-Life Projects, Inc. in 2006 to extend this approach into full-day training, keynote speaking, and mentoring assignments.
Alex is also an active Toastmaster, and uses their meetings to continuously improve his speaking and leadership skills. In 2006, he was honored as one of the top leaders in the New York/New Jersey area when he won Area Governor of the Year from District 46. He has also won awards for his humorous and inspirational speeches, placing second in a Division of more than 25 clubs and 500 members.
Alex lives in central New Jersey with his wife and seven kids.

Audio/Visual Requirements
Alex will bring his own laptop for presentation images and software demonstrations. Alex will provide PowerPoint or PDF format handouts for the event organizer to reproduce and distribute. On request, Alex can supply copies of audience handouts at cost.
The event organizer should provide a screen and PC projector bright enough and large enough for the room. Seating, location, and any refreshments are responsibility of the event organizer.
Depending upon room conditions, Alex typically requires a microphone and amplification for audiences of over 40. Alex prefers a lavalier (clip-on) microphone. Wireless is preferred, but either wireless or wired is acceptable.
For large groups (90 or more, depending on the room) an additional hand-held microphone is recommended for audience questions. One or more assistants should be available to walk the microphone to people in the audience. If no audience microphone is available, Alex will repeat questions for the group.

Alex’s portable digital recording studio
Alex typically records every presentation for his personal use and for use in training materials and products. On request, Alex can provide the raw digital recordings to the event organizer. Alex will set up any recording equipment ahead of time. Typically he will use one “tape out” jack on the audio mixer or amplifier to make the recording. Recordings remain property of Alex S. Brown, PMP and he retains copyright to the recording and all derivative works. Distribution rights for digital recordings, CDs, and other products are negotiated case-by-case. There is usually no additional charge for distribution within the company or to the attendees. Extra fees may apply for production, audio mixing, packaging, and other services.
